My name is Valentina Priolo, a freelance multidisciplinary artist, graphic designer, choreographer, and visual researcher based in Charleston, South Carolina, with professional and creative roots in New York City and Europe.

Creating stunning experiences through dance and design.

I create meaningful experiences through contemporary dance, choreography, visual communication, and design. As an interdisciplinary artist, my practice moves between performance and visual culture, exploring how movement, perception, and embodiment can inform creative expression across disciplines.

I am a contemporary performance artist and choreographer whose work has evolved through extensive training and professional experience in Europe and New York City, where I was drawn by the city's vibrant and multicultural dance community. Over time, my creative curiosity led me to expand my practice into graphic design, approaching visual language as another site of movement, structure, composition, and storytelling. I earned a B.F.A. in Graphic Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, where I developed a strong foundation in conceptual thinking, visual research, and design strategy.

My design practice spans editorial design, book design, typography, publication design, branding, visual identity design, exhibition design, information design, motion graphics, and web design, with a particular interest in user experience and research-driven visual communication. I am interested in how design can translate complex ideas, histories, and human experiences into compelling visual narratives.

Alongside my design work, I have collaborated as a performing artist, choreographer, and dance educator with Overground Physical Theatre Company, an experimental New York–based collective creating transpersonal experiences through contact improvisation, expressionistic postmodern European Tanztheater, and contemporary performance practices. My artistic work draws from somatic approaches, embodied research, and contemporary dance, exploring the relationship between body, identity, memory, and perception.

Across both design and performance, my work is shaped by adaptability, critical inquiry, and an ongoing dialogue between body and image. Whether developing a visual identity, designing an exhibition, creating a publication, or choreographing a performance, I approach each project as an opportunity to investigate how meaning is constructed, communicated, and experienced.

I am currently pursuing an M.A. in Dance Studies at the University of South Carolina, where my research focuses on somatic and holistic approaches to contemporary dance education.
