The Paradox of Stillness: Art_Object_Performance
Following is a short collection of articles that present a personal research on the notion of stillness in relation and opposition to the notion of motion, and how this concept has been explored and applied to the arts.
Stillness and permanence are common qualities of painting and sculpture. Translating these traditional mediums into actions, artists use performance to investigate the interplay between the fixed image and the live body, testing the boundaries between stillness and motion, mortality and aliveness, the still life and the living picture. This concept is also explored in environmental art and photography.
